What is Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.
A – Negative pressure, rather than tissue compression is superior for bodywork for pain, stubborn conditions, repetitive strains, inflammation, toxicity, chronic fatigue, disgestive problems and a slough of other issue we confront as we grow older.
Suction cups and negative pressure can rapidly facilitate rigid soft tissue release, sedate the nervous system (which makes it an excellent treatment for high blood pressure) loosens & lifts connective tissue, breaks up and drains stagnation while increasing blood & lymph flow to skin & muscles in ways not possible using compression.
Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff muscles, anxiety fatigue, migraines, rheumatism and even cellulite.
One way to think about cupping is that it is the inverse of massage. Rather than applying pressure to muscles, the suction uses pressure to pull skin, tissue and muscles upward. … The purpose of cupping is to enhance circulation, help relieve pain, remove “heat” and pull out the toxins that linger in your body’s tissues.
Another benefit of Cupping is that it can feel really great when done properly for your constitution and current physiology and/or condition. The pulling action engages the parasympathetic nervous system, thus allowing a deep relaxation to move through the entire body. It is not unusual to fall asleep when receiving this treatment. You will be surprised at how relaxed, warm and light you’ll feel – hours… sometimes even days afterwards.
A Word on Cupping Marks
The most common misunderstandings concerning Cupping is the misinterpretations of the marks that sometimes result. These marks are NOT Bruises!
Bruising is caused by impact trauma with the breakage of capillaries and a reactionary rush of fluids to the damaged location from the tissue injury. There is no compression in correctly performed Cupping.
When circulation is sluggish or compromised in an injured or diseased area of the body, insufficient oxygen gets to the cells. This results in a local build-up of waste products such as dead, static blood, lymph, cellular debris, and toxins.
Cupping can leave marks, which indicates that the stagnation or disease has been moved from the deeper tissue layers to the surface, allowing fresh oxygenated blood to nourish and heal the underlying areas. Any suction device left long enough in one place will loosen and pull these agents out & up to the skin surface.
How long do these marks last?
The color and pattern of the marks depend on the level of stagnation in the area, and range from a bright red to dark purple, usually lasting 3 days to a week – sometimes longer if the person is very sick or sedentary. If there is no stagnation present, there will be only a light pink mark, which disappears in a few minutes to a couple of hours. Sites where there is an old trauma or injury may require multiple cupping treatments to remove all the stagnation. You will find that with follow up treatments, the marks will become visibly lighter as the pathogens are systemically removed from the body.
As treatments accumulate and as the stagnation gets released, dispersed and drained – (sometimes quickly as the 2nd treatment) no discoloration is likely to occur at all – even though each time the cupping may have been focused on the same area, for the same duration, and with the same amount of suction. This action is clearly the result of having internal unwanted toxins systematically purged.
Myofoascia Release and Trigger Points
Also occurring along the fascia are Trigger Points. Trigger Points are twisted bundles of fascia that are extremely sensitive to palpation and feel like tough, dense knots along the muscle.
Trigger Points cause injuries over time because they break up the normal structure and operation of the fascia. Successful MFR stretches the fascia away from the underlying structures.
With negative pressure, the fascia is gently stretched and unwinds without the discomfort of force.
Nothing pulls from the body free radical, poisonous molcular debris better than suction
One misinterpretation of the marks that sometimes occur as result of Cupping are that they are bruises.
Unless the Cupping was done too strong in a contraindicated case, no “bruising” occurs.
What these marks under the skin are, post Cupping, is stagnation, dead cellular debris, pathogenic factors, and most importantly – Toxins being drawn out of the biosystem. Some capillary seepage occurs, but it is minimal to the acidic agents being removed.
Blood tests have been done to measure the levels of toxins, pesticides and acids being drawn out of the body with shocking results.
Stubborn conditions that may have been present for decades are easily resolved with Cupping.
Nothing works better at opening up and releasing joints, connective tissue and muscles than the use of negative pressure and movement.
Cupping is an excellent therapy for the belly. It stretches the walls of the organs, thus sloughing off stagnant waste and mucus and overall promote the activity of digestion.
People consistently report expelling an excess amount of waste immedietely follwing treatments and an increase of eliminations througout the day.
Cupping is regularly, and with great success, being used to help in conception, handle IBS, constipation, diarhea, distention and acidity.
Biomagnetic Field Therapy holds so many all encompassing, powerful effects that no one description of how they exert their positive therapeutic effects could adequately describe all the myriad and complex ways it effects mind and body.
However, from the perspective of bio-magnetics, health is based upon the individual cells of the body vibrating at a characteristic normal frequency. Disease, on the other hand, represents an abnormal change in cellular vibration.
The therapeutic application of magnets, at the deepest level, is based on the principle of restoring normal cellular vibration, positively influencing the relationships throughout the entire body-mind process.

CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR CUPPING
- Cupping is contraindicated in cases of severe diseases, i.e. cardiac failure, renal failure, ascites due to hepato-cirrhosis and severe edema, as well as hemorrhagic diseases such as allergic purpura, hemophilia and leukemia, and clients with dermatosis, destruction of skin, or allergic dermatitis.
- Cupping should not be applied on the portion where hernia exists or has occurred in the past.
- Broken bones, dislocations, hernias, slipped discs, organ failure, and those undergoing cancer therapy are contraindicated for Cupping.
- Cupping should not be performed on affected areas during the acute stages of Psoriasis, Eczema or Rosacea.
- Cupping should not be applied on effected areas during outbreaks of Urticaria (Hives), Herpes or Shingles.
- Cupping is contraindicated for those with liver or kidney functional illness, Cardiopathy, 3D Varicosities or over recent surgical incisions.
- Unless the mother has been receiving ongoing Cupping prior to their pregnancy – wait until the 2nd trimester.
- Women who have not received Cupping and begin during breast feeding should express several days before the treatment and should wait a few days post treatment to return to breast feeding
Since the techniques use negative pressure, rather than tissue compression, superior bodywork ranging from MFR and deep tissue work to MLD is easily accomplished. The suction of the cups rapidly facilitates rigid soft tissue release by stretching it up from underlying structures, thus loosening areas of adhesion or restriction, activating muscle spindle reflexes that relax contractile tissue and retraining the myofacial structures. Further, it stimulates the nervous system reflex to the cerebral cortex, contributing to an increased rate of recovery from pain and disease.
The effects are remarkable on hypertonicity and aching muscles and activate the secretion of synovial fluids, which release joint stiffness in ways not possible using the pressure of traditional massage. It concurrently creates localized expansion of tissue, producing a profound vasodilatation reaction – drawing blood flow to areas of ischemic pain, raising skin temperature, promoting metabolism within the skin tissue for better functioning of sweat and sebaceous glands, flushing capillary beds, draining stagnant blood, toxins and lymph, and re-supplying vital nutrients.
Its use in beauty therapy is based around promoting hormone production, encouraging blood and the secretion of digestive fluids and increased peristaltic movements in the bowels and internal organs, thus removing harmful toxins that speed up the ageing process and other degenerative conditions. Another effective application of the cupping technique is in the treatment of cellulite. A very light suction provides drainage, while heavier application can be used to stimulate circulation and loosen adhesions or “dimpling.” The thighs and hip region should be cupped prior to a wrapping procedure to enhance the absorption of topical products. Another application of Negative Pressure Massage include an extraordinary face lift and drainage treatment and the addition of new equipment that include negative and positive polarity magnet make Biomagnetic Therapy potentials tremendous.
